How do I get a library card?
Montgomery County residents can get a library card by visiting the library. Please bring your photo ID along with proof of current address.

How do I renew my library card?
Your library card is issued for three years and can be renewed every three years at the main library, one of our four branches or any bookmobile stop. Just bring your library card along with photo ID and proof of current address.
What do I do if I have lost my library card?
Notify a staff member immediately as you will be responsible for any materials checked out on that library card number until it is reported lost or stolen. Replacement cards are free of charge.
Does the library offer computer classes?
The library offers free one-on-one computer instruction.

Yes, there are several computers available on the main floor, computer lab, and children’s department. Our branches also provide public computers.

Do you have wireless Internet access?
Yes. WiFi is free. However, we do not provide WiFi printing.
Do you have fax?
Outbound faxes can be sent from the photocopier on the first floor. This service is provided free of charge. We cannot accommodate inbound fax jobs.

Can I pick up an Item from a library other than my home library?
Yes, most items can be picked up at the main library, one of our four branches and any bookmobile stop.
ILL (Inter-Library Loan) materials must be picked up and returned at the specific library at which they were requested.
Can I return an item to a library other than my home library?
Yes. Most items can be returned to any public library in Montgomery County.
Can I change the pickup location for a requested book after the request is placed?
Yes. For most items you can change the pickup location by calling your home library. ILL (Inter-Library Loan) materials must be picked up and returned at the specific library at which they were requested.
How do I know which new items have been added to the collection?

How will you notify me about information regarding my account including reserved items?
We may communicate with you via phone, email, or text message. These communications will be for library purposes only.
You can select your preferred method of communication when your library card application is filled out. To change how the library communicates with you, please contact the library.
For text messaging notices, we will need your cell phone number and your carrier (e.g. Verizon, Sprint, etc.)
Can I pay fines with my credit card or debit card?
Cash, check and money order are the only forms of payment currently accepted in person at the main library, branches, and bookmobiles. Fines totaling $5.00 or more may also be paid online with a credit card. However, all credit card transactions must be made to cardholders’ library accounts online. Cardholders need both their library card barcode number and a password to access their account. Visit the
account login page to create a password. Please note, there is a $1.00 processing fee for each credit card transaction, and debit cards are not accepted.
Do you accept donated books?
The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library presently does not accept book donations at its Norristown location.
Please consider donating your used books to Recycle Read Repeat. Recycle Read Repeat will make a cash donation to the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library on a portion of the value of the donated books that they are able to use. Recycle Read Repeat accepts gently used books with very little to no writing or highlighting, and only minor damage to covers or spines. No magazines or text books, please. Literary fiction, sci-fi, romance, fantasy, cookbooks, and young adult titles are especially welcome!
