Youth Services District Consultant

Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library (MC-NPL) seeks a part-time Youth Services District Consultant (YSDC). The YSDC ensures that MC-NPL, in its capacity as District Library Center for the public libraries of Montgomery County, provides leadership, support and coordination for youth services throughout the district.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • advising youth services librarians, library directors and para-professional staff, of both MC-NPL and the public libraries of the Montgomery County Library District, on matters related to collection development, reference and reader’s advisory service, programming and administration of service to children and young adults
  • coordinating planning for district-wide youth services, such as Science in the Summer, among all public libraries within the district
  • acting as a liaison for Montgomery County Library District and the Commonwealth library around services for youth

M.L.S. from ALA accredited library school required. Must have at least 3 – 5 years of experience in youth services, including a minimum of two years in a supervisory or administrative capacity with a library. The salary range for this 20 hour a week position is $31,000-$35,000 DOE, some benefits available. Support Staff III

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks a flexible and reliable part time employee to provide excellent customer service and technical support to the library community as part of its Computer Lab team. 19 hours per week including day time and evening hours, and Saturdays in rotation. This Support Staff 3 position is responsible for the planning, procurement, installation, implementation, on-going support, and administration of all technical systems located in the Computer Lab. Maintains library’s self-hosted WordPress website. Works closely with different MC-NPL departments and branches on projects throughout the year, and also with Polaris MAC (MCLINC Automation Coordinator).

Primary Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Perform routine hardware and software maintenance and manage backup/restores of 16 public access computers, as well as staff computers, and servers, and other hardware peripherals
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network related issues.
  • Manage the library’s website and file services. Ensure constant uptime, preventative measures, and resolutions in the event of loss of service
  • Compile documentation for recommendation of future upgrades and replacements
  • Maintain communication with vendors and suppliers for quotes, compile budget documentation, and assist staff in writing grant proposals Staff the Computer Lab according to a schedule developed by the Electronic Resources Librarian. Schedule can be flexible but requires a minimum three days per week, which will include an occasional Saturday rotation.
  • Serve as Computer Lab Desk Attendant.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance to individual computer users such as setting up email accounts, accessing tutorials, conducting Internet research and use and operations of hardware and software, in accordance with Computer Lab policies.
  • Assist the Electronic Resources Librarian during workshop sessions, as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Main Qualifications include, but not limited to:

  • Associate Degree in Computer Technology or related study, and/or possess 7-10 years related work experience.
  • Qualified applicants must be professional, well organized, results driven and persistent
  • Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally, and identify issues and present options resulting in a final resolution
  • Excellent time management, attendance and punctuality are a must
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Valid PA driver’s license and the ability to work at all MC-NPL locations as needed

Support Staff I

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks a flexible and reliable part time employee to provide excellent customer service and clerical support to the library community as a member of various MC-NPL departments.

18 hours per week, including day time hours, evenings and Saturdays in rotation.

Responsibilities & Capabilities include, but not limited to:

  • Good filing, organizational skills and follow through required.
  • Good communication with other libraries, staff, patrons. Good telephone and written skills.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Able to reach and lift overhead, and bend or stoop to floor level
  • Able to lift or move 20 pounds at a time in library materials and packages.
  • Able to use computer keyboards, telephones, and other standard office equipment
  • Extensive clerical duties using computers to download requests and information, processing of requests, updating of computer files, library records, etc.
  • Manual filing and updating of paper records as needed
  • Assist patrons in locating and using materials and equipment
  • Other functions as needed

Main Qualifications include, but not limited to:

  • Previous work experience of 0-4 years
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have valid PA driver’s license and the ability to work at any of the Library’s locations
  • Must be computer literate, including competence with MS Office Suite
  • Must have customer service-driven attitude and recognize the need for and importance of confidentiality
  • Flexibility in terms of scheduling and duties as required by position.
  • Ability and willingness to be assigned to various departments or locations as needed.

Support Staff I

The Royersford Branch of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks to fill a Support Staff I position. Part-time, 15 hours per week including day time hours, evenings and Saturdays. Excellent customer service, clerical, and communication skills required. Must be computer literate, have a valid PA driver’s license, and the ability to work at all MC-NPL locations as needed. Among other duties, job includes checking in materials, shelving, retrieving materials, and assisting patrons and coworkers. Circulation Support Staff I

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks a flexible and reliable part time employee to provide excellent customer service to the library community as a member of its Circulation Department team. 25 hours per week, including day time hours, at least 2 evenings per week and Saturdays in rotation. Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist the Head of Reader’s Services with the following:

  • marketing library services
  • publicity related to programs and services
  • Teen activities including Game Day

Will also perform regular Circulation Desk functions which include but are not limited to:

  • assisting patrons at the Circulation Desk
  • helping patrons using the photocopiers and other equipment
  • operating a telephone switchboard (answering incoming calls, routing calls to appropriate departments, etc.)
  • shelving and retrieving materials
  • entering, retrieving and applying patron registration data in the library’s automation system database
  • other clerical functions, such as typing correspondence, as required.

  • Previous work experience of 0-4 years
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
