Support Staff 1 for Circulation

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks a flexible and reliable part time employee to provide excellent customer service to the library community as a member of its Circulation Department team. 22-25 hours per week, including day time hours, at least 2 evenings per week and Saturdays in rotation. Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist the Head of Reader’s Services with the following:

  • marketing library services
  • publicity related to programs and services through Social Media
  • Teen activities including Game Day

Will also perform regular Circulation Desk functions which include but are not limited to:

  • assisting patrons at the Circulation Desk
  • helping patrons using the photocopiers and other equipment
  • operating the telephone switchboard (answering incoming calls, routing calls to appropriate departments, etc.)
  • shelving and retrieving materials
  • entering, retrieving and applying patron registration data in the library’s automation system database
  • other clerical functions, such as typing correspondence, as required.

Main Qualifications include, but not limited to:

  • Previous work experience of 0-4 years
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have valid PA driver’s license and the ability to work at any of the Library’s locations
  • Must be computer literate, including competence with MS Office Suite and knowledge of professional use of social media
  • Must have customer service-driven attitude and recognize the need for and importance of confidentiality

Support Staff 2

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks a flexible and reliable part time employee to provide excellent customer service and technical support to the library community as part of its Computer Lab team. 19 hours per week including day time and evening hours, and Saturdays in rotation. This Support Staff 2 position is responsible for assisting the Electronic Resources Librarian (ERL) in the management and operation of the Computer Lab. In addition to functioning as the contact person in the absence of the ERL, key tasks are recordkeeping and instruction. Also, will be responsible for staffing the check-in desk of the Computer Lab when Support Staff or Volunteers are unavailable. Will assist Electronic Resources Support Staff, and Computer Lab volunteers. Will be familiar with other library departments and their functions as they relate to the operation of the Computer Lab.

Primary Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Staff the Computer Lab according to a schedule developed by the Electronic Resources Librarian including weekday and evening. There will be some Saturday hours, as needed.
  • Teach several computer classes on a 14-week calendar rotation.
  • Register users of the facilities according to established library procedures; provide new users with information about library policies and procedures, with special emphasis on the Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Provide one-on-one help to individual computer users. Monitor user’s activity to insure compliance with the library’s Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Collect usage statistics on a day-to-day basis.
  • Maintain and clean items such as computer desk and chair surfaces, mouse and keyboard equipment.
    Assist the Electronic Resources Librarian during class sessions, as needed.
  • Responsible for all recordkeeping for the Computer Lab. This includes maintaining accounting records for Lab funds intake, as well as daily Computer Class payments, compiling Computer Lab usage statistics, handling all supplies inventory and ordering, and administering the Volunteer hours.
  • Develop class schedules and distribute as needed, maintain Computer Lab calendar, including staff meetings, class meetings, and other meetings as needed. This includes maintenance of meeting agendas and posting of the meeting notes.

Main Qualifications include, but not limited to:

  • Must have completed at least one academic year of post-secondary school education or possess at least 5-7 years previous work experience.
  • Thorough understanding of the operation of Windows computers and software programs is required. Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office package offerings of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher, and MS Access. To this degree should be able to instruct classes in these programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is essential, as is ability to interact pleasantly with general public and fellow library employees.
  • Must have valid PA driver’s license and ability to work at any of the library’s locations.

Administrative Assistant to MC-NPL Executive Director

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks a flexible and reliable full time employee to provide outstanding support to its Executive Director as part of the administrative team. 37 hours per week, including day time hours and occasional evenings and Saturdays as needed. Benefits available, salary range $41,000-$46,000.

Position Summary

Regulates and controls the office activities and flow of documents and information within the Administrative Office while working closely with Executive Director’s daily correspondence and schedule. Responsible for contacts with Board members, government officials, vendors, the general public and staff who require the services of the Executive Director. Prepares and processes written correspondence and provides information and materials for meetings. Assists with human resources. Oversees facility maintenance, cleaning crew and room rental process. Responsible for various fundraising activities such as annual appeal and annual fundraiser, as well as other development and marketing functions. Other duties as assigned.

Primary responsibility is to assist Executive Director as directed which will include, but is not limited to:

  • Acts as a representative of the Executive Director with public, staff and officials.
  • Takes and transcribes minutes for all Board and Department Heads meetings, and other meetings as needed; Types letters, forms, minutes, reports and other materials/documents for Executive Director; reviews for grammar, format, completeness, and adherence to Library policy; gathers documents, correspondence, and other information necessary for meetings. Create agendas and other documents as necessary for said meetings
  • Works closely with Executive Director in planning annual fundraising initiatives, in particular the annual appeal and annual fundraiser.
  • Develops and maintains filing and document control system for a variety of documents
  • Arranges and schedules appointments for Executive Director; screens visitors and phone calls; apprises the Director of all activity in regard to visitors and callers; answers a variety of inquiries regarding office activities and refers to the appropriate department for handling
  • Maintains control over incoming and outgoing correspondence, composes correspondence on a variety of subjects relating to the management of the office
  • Receives and maintains Branch, Department, and Security schedules on a weekly basis; schedules public meeting rooms
  • Oversees preparation and maintenance of new equipment, supplies, and inventory of office equipment and supplies
  • Contacts appropriate county department or outside contractor for needed repairs and follow-up
  • Assist with human resources; new hires, clearances, workman’s comp, etc.
  • Performs related work as required

Qualifications Required

  • Must have a college degree
  • Must have strong clerical and organizational skills, ability to multi-task
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher; must be skilled in current word processing and thorough knowledge of developing and maintaining databases and spreadsheets
  • Must possess initiative and independent judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with equanimity and courtesy when dealing with public and staff
  • Capacity to work under time pressure with accuracy and thoroughness in the midst of in-person and telephone interruptions
  • Must recognize the need for and importance of confidentiality
  • Must have valid PA driver’s license and the ability to work at any of the Library’s locations
  • Familiarity with fundraising, event planning, accounts payable and/or human resources is a plus.

The Royersford Branch of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks to fill a Support Staff I position. Part-time, 18 hours per week including day time hours, evenings and Saturdays.
