Branch Manager

Upper Perkiomen Valley Library is searching for a Branch Manager.  The Branch Manager is responsible for monitoring overall branch library operations, including staffing, collection development, public services, and liaison among branch staff, Montgomery County – Norristown Public Library’s (MC-NPL) Executive Director, and the Upper Perkiomen Valley (UPV) Library Board.  It is also the responsibility of the Branch Manager to ensure that the highest possible levels of library services are provided to the residents of the Upper Perkiomen Valley service area. At the discretion of the Branch Manager, specific tasks and responsibilities may be delegated; however, the Branch Manager is ultimately accountable to the MC-NPL Executive Director and the UPV Library Board for providing quality service and maintaining professional standards according to approved policies and the mission of UPV Library.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold the minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, 5-7 years of previous work experience including at least 3 years of experience working in a library setting, and must be willing to become a Provisional Librarian within 18 months from the date of hire or hold a Master’s degree in Library Science and a minimum of 1 year of previous work experience.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience with evidence of progressively increasing responsibility is required.
  • Must possess a familiarity with library automation systems.

Outreach Bookmobile Coordinator

Montgomery County – Norristown Public Library is searching for a Mobile Library Coordinator for our senior outreach program, Words on Wheels (WOW).  Mobile Services: Is responsible for the Mobile Library; schedules appointments, drives to different sites within Montgomery County, rotates book stock, checks books in and out, issues out library cards, keeps the vehicles neat and in good working order, and works closely with supervisors to schedule routine and necessary maintenance of the vehicle.  The ideal fit for this position must have a clean driving record and the ability to drive an oversize cargo van, be dependable, have an outgoing personality, great customer service skills, the ability to connect with and provide assistance to the elderly population, work independently, have excellent time management skills, have a keen sense of attending to details, and experience working in a library setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive and operate the WOW Bookmobile and cargo vans on scheduled routes to various locations throughout Montgomery County.
  • Plan and implement library programming activities and outreach services for the senior WOW Mobile Services.
  • Performs some regular circulation duties (checks library materials in and out, places books on hold, shelves books, reads shelves, prepares and maintains patrons’ files in POLARIS; issues library cards, etc.).
  • Collaborate with supervisors to develop and maintain mobile library materials.
  • Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain good planning and organizational skills.
  • Analyze, appraise, and organize facts and evidence and present material clearly and logically in oral or in written form.
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees, business partners, and patrons.
  • Communicate both orally and in writing to patrons and business partners.
  • Receives and resolves patron’s problems and complaints.
  • Answers basic patron inquiries and simple reference questions.
  • Performs minor troubleshooting and takes remedial actions to correct computer problems.
  • Refers major hardware or software problems to the automation department for correction.
  • Will be assigned to other sections of the Library when not working on the Bookmobile Library.

Qualifications:

  • A clean driving record from your state of residence
  • Must have completed at least one academic year of post-secondary school education, or possess at least 5-7 years of previous work experience. Preferably in the library field.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Must have a working knowledge of adult fiction and adult non-fiction books.
  • Experience working with the 55+-year-old service population is preferred.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy.
