District Consultant Librarian—Full Time

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library (MC-NPL) seeks a full time, exempt District Consultant Librarian.

The District Consultant Librarian:

  • provides library consultant services to the staff, Boards, Friends groups, municipal officials and interested members of the public for the Montgomery County Library District
  • coordinates services to public libraries throughout the District
  • recommends, implements, coordinates and evaluates programs and services for the development of best library management practices for the public libraries in the District
  • acts as liaison between District libraries, the District Library Center (DLC) and the Office of Commonwealth Libraries
  • works collegially with other District Library Center (DLC) department heads
  • advises the DLC Administrator and Board as the liaison to Commonwealth Libraries
  • partners with other DLC consultants and administrators on regional & statewide projects
  • monitors DLC standards
  • partners with community agencies in furthering literacy needs throughout the District
  • participates, as a non-voting member, on the Board of the Montgomery County Library and Information Network Consortium (MCLINC)

An MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited college is required, plus 8 to 10 years of professional library experience including a minimum of five years in a supervisory or administrative capacity with a public library. Able to drive a vehicle and possess a valid point-free PA driver’s license, as well as own a car. The salary range for this position is $74,000 to $78,000 DOE. Generous paid time off and other benefits are available.

Children’s Department Head—Full Time

The Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library seeks a creative, flexible and reliable employee as Head of the Children’s Department. This position is full-time, 37 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays in rotation. Employer-sponsored health insurance, generous paid time off, and other benefits are included. Salary Range: $52,000-$55,000.

Responsibilities: The Children’s Department Head supervises a staff of six full- and part-time employees, as well as volunteers, plans programming for ages 0-12, manages collection development, establishes partnerships with local schools and community organizations, and assists with the Library’s Books-Go-Round Bookmobile program.

Qualifications: Must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science and Certification as Professional Librarian by the PA Bureau of Teacher Certification, and 2-5 years public library experience as Youth Services Librarian, including 1 to 2 years at the supervisory level. Grant-writing experience is preferred.

Support Staff I: Driver for Bookmobile & Outreach Department—Full Time

Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library’s Bookmobile & Outreach Department seeks a full-time employee to drive an extended cargo van countywide, packing, delivering, and retrieving materials between libraries and other locations. Monitors and fuels vehicles, reports needed repairs, performs minor preventive maintenance on vehicles, and cleans/washes interior and exterior of vehicles, as required. This position is full-time, 37 hours per week. Employer-sponsored health insurance, generous paid time off, and other benefits included.

Must possess high school diploma or equivalent. Previous work experience of 0-4 years. Strong organizational skills, position involves heavy lifting—sometimes as much as 40 pounds—and standing for extended periods of time. Must possess good driving skills and ability to interact well with co-workers and staff members of client libraries. Position requires a valid, points-free PA driver’s license and the ability to work at any of the Library’s locations.
