Circulation Clerk (Part-time)

Montgomery County- Norristown Public Library is seeking a part-time Circulation Clerk to work at the Norristown Branch. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional public library service to patrons. It also supports the Library’s activities by staffing the public service desk, handling clerical tasks, and assisting the Department Manager and other staff with projects and programming. As needed, the Circulation Clerk serves as substitute staff at the main library, bookmobiles, and branches. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, possess a positive attitude toward customer service, demonstrate personal integrity, exhibit a strong work ethic, and be capable of working independently or as part of a team.

 Benefits we provide:

  • Starting wage of $16.05 per/hour
  • Work Schedule: 19 hours per week (Days, Evenings, and Weekends)

Qualifications:

Cataloging Librarian (Part-time)

The Cataloger is responsible for cataloging and classifying new and gifted materials for the main library, bookmobiles, and four branches. It is the responsibility of the Cataloger to process materials in a timely and accurate manner in cooperation with other departments and branches, monitor developments at the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) and MCLINC to ensure optimal cataloging functionality, Create bibliographic control and database maintenance in both Polaris and OCLC. The Cataloger is ultimately accountable for providing quality service and maintaining professional standards according to approved policies and the mission of the Library. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated and pay close attention to details. They must also possess personal integrity, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work individually or on a team.

Qualifications for Employment

  • A master’s degree in library science from an institution accredited by ALA.
  • One or more years of professional work experience in a library setting is preferred.
  • Eligibility for PA Professional Librarian Certification.
  • Familiarity with the OCLC cataloging sub-system preferred.
  • Familiarity with the latest versions of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition (AACR2), Resource Description & Access (RDA), the Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), and (MAchine Readable Cataloging (MARC) formats.
  • Familiarity with ILS.
  • Familiarity with Technical processing procedures and practices.

Support Staff I: Digital Literacy Clerk (Part-time)

Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, seeks a part-time (19 hours/week) Digital Literacy Clerk.  Responsible for providing outstanding computer assistance to patrons in the computer lab, helping in a wide range of digital tasks such as creating resumes, filling out job applications, creating email accounts and sending emails. Assist with the implementation of computer instruction curriculum, offering one-on-one instruction and teaching classes as needed.  Supports activities of the MC-NPL by staffing the public service desk when needed, performing clerical tasks, and assisting the Department Head and other staff with projects and programming. Act as substitute staff at the circulation desk, and in other departments at the main library, bookmobiles, and branches, as needed. Must be self-motivated and have a positive attitude towards customer service. Must possess personal integrity, a strong work ethic, and ability to work individually or on a team.

Reference Librarian (Part-time)

Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library is in search of a part-time Reference Librarian. As a direct report to the Reference Services Department Head, the Reference Librarian serves as a professional reference librarian for patrons in the main library, branch, and bookmobile service areas. Provide reference services support to district libraries and their patrons. Participate in regional and statewide virtual reference services. Perform collection development in assigned areas. Write and administer grants to enhance department offerings. Develop and deliver training, workshops, and programs for staff and the public. Cross-train with other departments and branches to provide staffing assistance, as needed.

Qualifications for Employment

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science. Ability to obtain certification as a Professional Librarian by PA Bureau of Teacher Certification.

  • Work experience in library reference services is desired.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) is preferred and Polaris ILS is desired.
  • Spanish language fluency is desired.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
