Reopening Policies for the Main Library in Norristown

  • Limited number of patrons inside the library at any given time. We will only allow 50 patrons on the main floor at a time, and 15 patrons on the second floor at a time. Please keep your visit to no more than 30 minutes. If people are waiting for a turn to come in the library, we may ask you to wrap up your visit. Our goal is to make sure that everyone who wants to visit the library has the opportunity to do so.
  • Children. Children 12 years and younger must be supervised by a responsible adult (adult defined as someone 18 years or older).
  • Masks are required. We require everyone over the age of 2 to wear a mask when entering the library. Please wear the mask over both your nose and mouth and keep it on throughout your visit. Library staff will be wearing masks as well. If you forget a mask, we can offer you a disposable paper mask. If you are unable to wear a mask, we will try our best to accommodate you by checking out your materials or making copies for you. Curbside pickup will continue to be available to those who would prefer not to enter the building. We are committed to helping our patrons get access to library materials in the safest manner possible.
  • Hand sanitizer is available. Hand sanitizer dispenser stations are located at both entrances and within the library. Please use hand sanitizer upon entering the building, and again as needed.
  • Please follow social distancing guidelines while in the library. Our collection will be available for patrons for browsing, but please do so in a careful manner by leaving six feet between yourself and other patrons or staff. If library staff ask you to wait until an area is clear, please cooperate. We have placed tape on the floor to direct movement at our service desks. If you touch items while browsing, please place them in the boxes marked for that purpose located throughout the building.
  • Keeping the library clean. Cleaning staff will be present in the library mornings and afternoons every day. Cleaning staff will wipe down frequently-touched surfaces at least once per day (e.g.: doorknobs, photocopier and checkout counters). However, we cannot clean everything between each patron. Please protect yourself and help us keep these public spaces clean by washing your hands thoroughly and using hand sanitizer.
  • Public computers. A limited number of computers will be available for use by appointment only for 45minute periods. Please call 610-278-5100, ext. 0 to make a reservation. Priority will be given to patrons who have not had a prior chance to use a computer in any given week. Workstations, including keyboard covers, will be wiped down between patron appointments.
  • Bathrooms. The bathrooms will be available for patron use. Our cleaning service will thoroughly clean the bathrooms at least twice a day, but we cannot clean them between each patron. Please wash your hands thoroughly after using the bathroom.
  • Elevators. Only one person or family group is permitted to use our elevators at one time. Please take the stairs when possible.
  • Seating. Seating is very limited. Seating is spaced at least 6 feet apart. Chairs facing each other across tables are prohibited.
  • Returning materials. Our book returns are available 24 hours a day. You may also return library materials at the designated location at our Front Desk when the building is open. Returns will be quarantined for at least 72 hours before being checked in. We will waive any fines that might accrue during this quarantine period.
  • Donations. We are not accepting book donations at this time.
  • Programs. All programs will remain virtual: there will be no in-building, in-person programs until further notice.
  • Public rooms are closed. Public rooms (Community Room, Board Room, and Children’s Learning Center) are not available for use or rent at this time.
  • Out-of-state travel quarantine requirements. Consistent with the Governor’s order, if you have recently returned from an area where there is a high amount of COVID-19 cases, we recommend you quarantine at home for 14 days upon return and ask that you not visit the Library until your 14-day quarantine is completed. The current list of affected states can be found here: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx
