How to get library services when you don't have one - The mobile branch
The bookmobile is more than just a bus with books. It is in fact a full-service mobile library branch. This video from the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library Bookmobile and Outreach Department introduces the bookmobile program and is meant to show some of the wide range of services we offer.
Words on Wheels
A bookmobile for older adults that currently visits fifty-seven retirement, senior center, and assisted living facilities throughout Montgomery County. The vehicle houses 2,000 resources including large print books, magazines, audio books, and DVDs. Patrons are able to place special requests and have them delivered to their registered facility on scheduled bi-monthly visits. The mobile library is handicapped accessible and is a free service provided to Montgomery County residents. Contact Russell Rush at the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library Outreach Services to inquire about bringing the bookmobile to your facility: 610-278-5100 ext. 5
Day Care Bookmobile (Books Go Round)
A specialized vehicle that provides storytimes and book selection to groups of preschool children in day care settings throughout Montgomery County. Every group of children is visited bi-monthly. For the current schedule and eligibility for the service, contact the Bookmobile Department.

Books-By-Mail
A free-of-charge mail delivery service for residents of Montgomery County who are short or long-term convalescent, or permanently housebound. Patrons can order by type material and title of choice and up to ten items per request. Each mailed package will contain the requested material, a new order card, and a return mailing label and return postage. Materials are returned in the same bag that the requested items were received in. Contact Ginger Atkins at the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library Outreach Services to register or to receive assistance in choosing materials: 610-278-5100 ext. 5. Bookmobile Policies and Procedures
- Through AUTOMATION, you have access to materials in libraries throughout the nation. Library cards are free. Requests may be made on the www.mc-npl.org site, through request slips, or by calling Sue at 610-278-5100 x122. You will be notified by e-mail or telephone when your requested material is available.
- LOAN periods will vary according to the next scheduled visit, type material, and whether it is a new title. The receipt print out will clearly state the due date of each resource checked out. If a bookmobile fails to meet its stop, materials will be due on the next scheduled visit to that stop. Materials to be picked up will be held for the next time.
- RENEWALS may be placed on items based on the number of allowed renewals for that item. Renewals are item specific and may not be placed if there is a hold (another patron waiting to borrow the resource) placed on the item. There are no renewals for DVDs. Materials checked out on the bookmobiles may be returned to any bookmobile or any Montgomery County library.
- BOOKMOBILE DVDs are borrowed for a two-week period or longer if your next scheduled stop exceeds the two-week period. The charge is $1.00/video for the two week loan, and the late fee is $2.00/day with a maximum fine of $30.00.
- FINES FOR OVERDUE MATERIALS: Adult materials 15˘ per day and Children’s materials 10˘ per day with an $8.00 maximum assessment. Overdue fines from other libraries may vary. Lost items must be reimbursed at full cost.
- Each BORROWER IS RESPONSIBLE for all materials drawn on his/her card and for all fines accrued. LOST CARDS should be reported immediately. There is a $3.00 charge for replacement of lost library cards.
- QUESTIONS about fines, renewals, or other circulation/materials procedures should be addressed to Linda, Assistant Head Bookmobile & Outreach Services Department, at 610-278-5100 x123. It is our goal to meet your needs while providing all patrons with fair, consistent, and individual assistance.
